Overall purpose of the role:
The Protection Officer – General Protection is responsible for implementing and supervising community-based protection (CBP) activities in mobile response areas across South Sudan. This includes protection risk assessments, awareness-raising, case management, protection monitoring, coordination with stakeholders, and capacity building for community structures and networks. The officer plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable populations, ensuring access to services, and maintaining the confidentiality and ethical standards outlined in DRC's Code of Conduct.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Technical & Operational:
- Experience with community-based protection, referrals, and protection desks.
- Familiarity with GBV, child protection, HLP, mine action, and survivor-centered case management.
- Knowledge of South Sudan legal frameworks, IHL, and human rights law.
- Ability to conduct rapid protection assessments and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Competence in using data collection tools and contributing to protection monitoring systems.
Coordination & Community Engagement:
- Skilled in engaging local authorities, CBPNs, women/youth networks, and other stakeholders.
- Experience in training facilitation, IEC material development, and capacity-building for local actors.
- Strong understanding of protection mainstreaming and inclusion (AGD approach).
Planning & Management:
- Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate field activities and CBP interventions.
- Strong team leadership, mentoring, and supervision skills.
- Ability to manage documentation, logistics (movement, finance, procurement), and contribute to donor reporting.
Personal Attributes:
- Willingness to work in remote, high-risk environments.
- Adaptability, resilience, and genuine interest in protection of crisis-affected populations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of direct experience in protection programming.
