The DRC Humanitarian Response Roster is looking for skilled Climate Change, Environmental and Renewable Energy Experts in the humanitarian field, with UN experience and French/English language skills.
The objective of the DRC Humanitarian Response Roster is to mobilize qualified and committed humanitarian experts for deployments to our UN partners, thereby strengthening the capacity of the UN organizations for more timely, effective, and accountable humanitarian response to people affected by crises. In this role, we are looking for candidates who can undertake a variety of tasks and duties based on UN operational needs, such as:
- Develop, implement and lead programs that are adaptive, sustainable, and resilient.
- Undertake risk profiling, assessments and contingency planning across the humanitarian sector.
- Implement and operationalize relevant smart tools and management systems.
- Identify and develop training and capacity building activities for relevant UN staff and stakeholders.
- Research relevant climate/environment/energy policies, regulations, best practices and funding opportunities, contributing to resource mobilization.
The Climate Change, Environmental and Renewable Energy Experts will primarily be deployed by WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF, FAO, UNFPA and IOM in both emergencies and complex protracted situations, for 3-6 months on average.
Profile and qualifications:
We are looking for qualified candidates with extensive experience in the humanitarian field, who meet the following requirements:
- Relevant educational background (advanced university degree in relevant field e.g. Environmental Science, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Disaster Management, Sustainability, Natural Resources Management).
- Previous United Nations work experience is considered a strong advantage.
- A minimum of 3 years specific experience with climate change, environmental issues and or renewable energy for humanitarian assistance or in an emergency response.
- 2 years international humanitarian field experience with exposure to cross-sectorial programming for the climate, environment and or renewable energy.
- Proficiency in one (preferably two) official UN languages. English is mandatory, while French is considered a strong advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in refugee and IDP responses.

- Motivation for a continuing career within the international humanitarian field.
- Committed to being an active member of the DRC Humanitarian Response Roster for a minimum of 3 years.
- Informed and in agreement with the salary and compensation package during deployment.

Screening and selection process
Applications are screened on an ongoing basis, and we may therefore contact relevant applicants prior to the application deadline. Long-listed candidates will be invited for an online test and will be asked to submit contact details for 2 references. If the test result is satisfactory, the candidate may be invited for an interview over Teams. A conclusion on the roster membership will be taken following the interview and feedback from referees. We expect the process to take place from June – August 2025.
